OYF is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. We are an agent
of positive social change by encouraging the practice
of yoga, thereby promoting and improving our community’s health
and well-being. We dedicate special attention and support to
the special needs segments of our society.

OUR STORY
Originally named “It’s Free Yoga Miami!!”,
Hector Alvarez and Luana Hervier created the program in
November 2007 as a three-month project in Kennedy Park in Coconut
Grove. Their intention was to introduce yoga to 1,000 people
that had never tried it before and, at the same time, raise
funds for Camillus House, an organization dedicated to helping
the homeless. When the community requested the classes to
continue after the third month, the organization blossomed
into Free Yoga Foundation (FYF). Over the next couple of years,
FYF expanded to six other parks throughout South Florida. In
June 2010, FYF incorporated as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit
organization.
As the foundation grew, the park classes became donation-based to better address the changing needs of the organization, and to further support our mission of making yoga available to everybody and expanding our special population programs.
In December 2011, FYF evolved into ONE Yoga Foundation: One Spirit, One Community, One Yoga!
WHAT WE DO

- Every month we teach yoga to more than 400 students.
- Our classes have on average of 30 to 70 students
- We reach students of all ages: 65% of our students are ages 50 and younger, while the other 35% are over the age of 50, with students as old as 70 years old!
- We foster the use of the city’s green areas while developing a space for the students to take advantage of their community
- We raise funds for other organization and causes, such as Camillus House, Youth Expression, Miami EV Project, Peru and Haiti Relief Funds, among others.
